The Venetian Pool

IMG_4358

For a wonderful day at the Venetian Pool you should learn a little big of its history: The Pool was opened in 1924 in the City of Coral Gables, musicians, models, and many celebrities enjoyed the beauty of its Mediterranean features such as the buildings, plazas, porticos and the landscaped surrounded with palm trees. In the 2oth century the pool had a double use, the used to emptied the 820,000 gallon of water and an orchestra would perform on the pool bottom. As you walk to the fountain, spend some time reading and looking at the historic photographs that are still hanging in their walls.

Beside the 820,000 gallons of fresh water, the most distinguishing feature is the two waterfalls and the caves-like grotto.

The Pool has a great lifeguard program, service and classes, offers swim lessons and it has a Café on site. For more information visit http://www.venetianpool.com    Enjoy!!!

Florida West Coast Beaches

Follow me through the most spectacular Florida West Coast Beaches. Visit the gallery for more pics of this trip.

Florida has many fabulous beaches on the east and on the west sides of the coast; each of them has their unique characteristics. On this post I will only refer to the ones on the  West Coast.

Day 1:

We started our road trip in Miami and we decided to visit some friends in Naples, a quiet yet gorgeous town just a two hour drive from Miami, but getting us already on the West Coast side. After having lunch, we went to the Clam Pass Beach; just to get to the beach itself is an adventure, you get on a free tram that will take you through a path surrounded by nature (mangrove trees) till you reach the clear waters of Naples Beach. This beach is famous for the beautiful sandbars and the fact that the clam pass connects to the ocean. In other words, you can be swimming in the fresh water, and let the current take you to the beach. Great boardwalk!!! Tip: you can bring in food, and drinks, chairs and umbrellas to save some $$$.

In Naples you can also visit Tin City for a variety of restaurants and shopping by the water. At night just walk the Naples Pier for amazing sunsets, fish or have a late picnic by the pier.

Dia 1:

Day 2 and 3:LIANY school trip to disney and CRYSTAL RIVER 169

We headed to Crystal River to swim with manatees. The place is beautiful and people are very friendly in this area, but to get to the place from Naples is about a 4- 5 hour drive. We did it like this because on our way down to Miami we visited different beaches, as you will see on later days.

Scalloping/Oysters

Tip: get tickets to swim with manatees ahead of time to avoid lines and the crowd. I got my tickets on groupon.com. There are also Oyster’s and Scalop Tours from Crystal River.

Once in the area you might want to visit Weeki Wachee Spring State Park (adults$13, children $8 )  for a better taste of Crystal River and to enjoy the amazing mermaid show. Tip: Temperature of the water is cold all year long. Don’t forget to rent your floating single or double to have lazy time at the lazy river.

Dia 2 y 3:

¡ Simplemente bello!!!

Day 4 and 5:FORT MYERS 2014 119

Sarasota, Lido Beach, Siesta Key : Here we spent a couple of days because the sand and the water invited us to stay a little bit longer. Some friends joined us and we had a great get-together. At night you can also visit the cute town of Lido Beach and have dinner in one of the many restaurants they have. Visit Sarasota Bayfront, have an ice cream, etc. Your options are unlimited! Tip: Sarasota is a big city, so you need to pick and choose which of the beaches you want to do.

Dia 4 y 5:

Day 6 and 7:

St. Pete and Pass a Grille Beach: They are both on the same island and are other destinations you should consider if you like sun and salt water. We didn’t have any hotel reserved but got lucky when we walked into Grand Palm Hotel and rented the last room available. The backyard was incredible; it is a perfect destination for families, but I can say that it’s mostly for couples since they have a romantic atmosphere. There are several weddings everyday due to the beauty of the place. On the top floor, the hotel has a spinning restaurant. While you are having dinner you can enjoy views of the city, island, and the ocean.

Dia 6 y 7:

Day 8:

Looking for shark teeth beach, as my daughter used to called it, we ended up at Venice Beach to have lunch and continue to find the beach full of shark teeth. It really existed!!!

Dia 8:

FORT MYERS 2014 196

We stopped at Sanibel island, Captiva island …

Paramos en Sanibel y en Captiva Islands…

Day 9 and 10:

Fort Myers and Marco Island: These two beaches are not too far from each other, but they are both excellent to spend your days doing absolutely nothing, just lay by the beach, sip a margarita, and relax with your friends and family.

In the afternoon, just walk through the sand and collect starfish, watch for dolphins, and enjoy the magic of the West Coast Sunsets.

Dia 9 y 10:

All the Way to the Keys

To the Florida Keyskey west and other 229 key west and other 228 key west and other 227

I’ve lost count of how many time I’ve been in Key West and it is because driving the 175 miles to it (about 255km) from Miami, is worth it. About 22 bridges connect Miami and Key West through little islands, keys, tiny pieces of land; all above the ocean. But this trip gets even better if you rent a convertible, a jeep or RV. Florida keys maintain the perfect temperature all year long permitting you to stop in all the places this road offers: restaurants, cafes, bars, beaches, spots for fishing, perfect areas for snorkeling, shops and much more. Below, I will recommend some places to visit or things to do in each key; and don’t forget to enjoy the ride.

You will travel from Miami through the first key, the largest one (33 miles long)

Key Largo : Stop at John Pennekamp State Park for Family Snorkel Tours, canoeing, kayaking, beach access, glass bottom boat, RV camp

Tavernier: Great Marina to book a fishing tour

Islamorada: Visit the Bass Pro Shops and enjoy the restaurants: have a drink at the bar, sit in hammock, enjoy the music and the view, feed the tarpons, sharks or pelicans.

Duck Key (very little): Perfect to swim with dolphins at Duck Key Resort, beach, water park, restaurants, pool, bar.

Marathon Key: Bahia Honda State Park: Beautiful place for almost everything. It is on mile marker 37 and includes an RV campsite, beach access, fishing spots, snorkeling; you can even climb to an old bridge and enjoy the most spectacular sunsets.

Cross the Seven Mile Bridge to Key West (your final destination)

Key West: Before entering Key West there are several RV Camps, once in Key West you won’t find any. Key West has EVERYTHING and more- Duval Street has it all. The best way to spend your days in Key West is by renting a golf car or scooters. Parking is expensive.

Go wild: let the adventurer inside of you out; Florida Keys is the place to do it!!!!!

My City

My City

Miami/Part 1
When talking about Miami the first thing that comes to my mind is the clear waters of its beaches, the sun, the boats, and of course the variety of restaurants and food, the night life and my favorite: the cruises. Miami is a great travel destination, we receive visitors from all over the world, the warm beaches invite travelers and residents to the most spectacular hotels in South Beach, and /or to get on a three to seven day cruise from one of the largest ports in the world: the port of Miami, the capital of the cruises. I leave you guys with some views of my city. Enjoy!!!
Disfrutenlas!!!
